Ryder Cup Comments
First things first - I am humbly eating my words after that showing by Team Europe last week. To make it worse, it was the biggest ever margin of victory recorded by either team! Sure USA was likely going to win, but never did I imagine that proper walloping. It was somewhat of a pity as there are not many people I know who enjoy such a one-sided contest and not being gripped right to the end. Wouldn’t be surprised if the television ratings fell off a cliff once Morikawa sealed the deal with his half.
USA are going to be tough to beat for a number of years & Team Europe undoubtedly have their work cut out.
Whistling Straits in my opinion was a world class host course. Superb variety in hole designs bringing in those risk/reward shots on a number of occasions. Great for Matchplay.
Next, it must be said - there were a number of things that stirred up conversation and irritation for that matter.
One of which was Bryson being childish after not being conceded a 3 foot putt…😢
And JT also joined in the kids’ party..☹️
Again - if it was a 1 footer YESSS carry on like that, but do me a favour! 🤦♂️
Next up the disappointing ‘welcome’ to all the European players to the 1st tee serenading them with boos. Can’t the captains just stand in and urge the home crowds to have a tad more respect for the opposition!?
Until last week it was Europe who have dominated the last 15 meetings. However, it’s looking like it may be the polar opposite for the next 5 - 7 meets. The European depth seems to be lacking a touch. Apart from Viktor Hovland there don’t seem to be many other ‘superstars’ on the horizon. Plenty of ‘decent’ players yes, but they’ll need luck in running each and every time without carrying the stock standard two or three superstars at least.
Just my opinion so I may well be eating my words again come 2029!

Call me old school, call me whatever you want. But I wasn’t a fan of Justin Thomas (in particular) and Daniel Berger downing beers on the 1st tee prior to the afternoon Fourballs on Friday. Slamming the empty beer can down on the floor (again - on the 1st tee box) shouting ‘let’s go, let’s gooooo’ repeatedly is slightly cringeworthy. I don’t reckon Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer would’ve been spurring them on had they been Captains. When the tournament is over yes absolutely, but this was a bit silly…🤦♂️
Here’s a ‘report card’ for each and every player on Team USA. And another for Team Europe - and this one didn’t look nearly as pretty!
Kyle Porter with a fantastic article revolving around the deeper meaning of Ryder Cup team golf and Rory McIlroy. It’s a 10 minute read, but an absolute must. Please just do yourself a favour. If you were never in the Rory camp before, now you will be.
Check out Golf Digest’s forecast of who will make the Ryder Cup lineups in 2023. A couple of changes to the US team and a fair few changes to Europe!
Wait a Second! 🤣
Bryson is clueless when it comes to opening a bottle of champagne…really!?? 😂
