Slightly Boring Rendition?
I must be honest. This year’s Masters was not the most gripping or exciting I’ve ever watched.
The only thing saving it was - well - Augusta National! If the same contenders were ‘in the mix’ with very slim chance of victory at say the previous week’s Valero Texas Open it would have been a snooze fest.
The gent below has hit the nail on the head. Are we just too biased and ‘golfy’ thinking it was good or great?
Firstly a major with a runaway leader is not very exciting (unless it’s Tiger of course! 😆). Secondly, even though TV ratings were up in the last hour of the broadcast, and with all due respect, Scottie Scheffler is not the most exciting player or star either. Golf really needs the powerhouse drawcard figures in contention to make it exciting.
Fans, excuse me ‘patrons’, will always be at the course itself until the last minute of a final round. Actually a little while over.
They’re just hoping to pull a King & Ace by attending the right day or right tournament which happens to be a major of the decade. Such as Tiger at Pebble Beach in 2000. I can guarantee you though it would have been the first time they’ve seen a player four putt the last and still win by a mile…respect!
It was however great to see Rory up there again in a major though. Although he didn’t have any realistic chance of winning the tournament after 3 rounds. All the pressure was off and he tore Augusta National up. Some saying it’s like he even forgot how to celebrate it’s been so long! 😆
Hopefully Rory’s new approach will produce another major victory for us in 2022. Will be great for him, will be great for the game.

Nike surely can’t be happy with this design that Tony Finau wore on Saturday. Absolutely horrid!
Tyrrell Hatton didn’t hold back on his opinion of Augusta. And he’s unfortunately massively outvoted on this one.
…and lastly Saudi Golf League has gone a bit quiet, but rumors are raising their heads again.
