Credits surely have to go to LIV for providing the inspiration for what we are about to experience??…
Begs the question…what took them so long!?
Unfortunately I think this gent has hit the nail on the head. It’s time for a change.
The Dying DP World Tour? 🪦
As you very likely are aware, the Official World Golf Ranking changed their ranking points structure a couple of weeks ago.
The primary change? Ranking purely on Strength of Field.
Prior to this change, the DP World Tour carried a minimum of 24 points going to the winner which would provide a fair jump up the world rankings. The last two weeks’ winners (Ewen Ferguson & Maximilian Kieffer) have earned 8.16 and 10.33 points respectively. The Korn Ferry Tour now offers more OWGR points than the DP World Tour (as you can see in week 34 rankings below).
Just a few months ago in a regular week on the respective tours, the DP World Tour was a lot closer to the PGA Tour in terms of points offered.
Now - there is a massive gap. And it is a bit sad that it has caused this to happen as the DP World Tour was always a ‘reasonably’ good opposition to the PGA Tour.
In future, the best in the world are hardly going to be playing in Europe apart from a few weeks of the year primarily around The Open Championship time.
The new ranking system has a knock-on effect both ways.
Negative effect - Lesser tours have weaker SOF’s meaning lower 1st place points. Subsequently lower purses and more difficult for a player to ‘graduate’ to the bigger tours unless another criteria is in place. Also no reason why high profile players would want to play an event outside of the PGA Tour unless he was paid a big appearance fee.
Positive effect - Stronger tours (actually mainly just the PGA Tour) have higher SOF’s meaning higher points, bigger purses, higher fan interest and no interest for players to play anywhere else.
The strong get stronger and the weak get weaker! I hope the DP World Tour doesn’t fade as I really do like it & also seeing tournaments being played in so many different countries.

Tiger & Rory have joined forces with another partner to bring about a new sports and entertainment venture. No doubt it is going to absolutely fly!!
Lawyers have filed a motion to uncover all the LIV players’ contracts. Not sure id this is going to end up successful, but would be interesting nonetheless to see the various deals and amounts offered.
Wait a second! 😆
